Winner: Educational Options, Fremont Union High School District

Caring School Climate: Recognizing a high school that has created a caring school climate where all students are supported and empowered to achieve.

Educational Options (EdOps), in the Fremont Union High School District, is a community of interconnected programs designed to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of high school and post-secondary students.

The mission of EdOps is to provide an individualized pathway to success for every student, regardless of the academic or personal challenges they may face. EdOps provides an alternative for high school students who are not having their learning needs met by a traditional high school and an extended learning opportunity for post-secondary students to participate in community based programs. EdOps offers a number of unique programs for customized learning: Community School; Customized Learning Program (CLP): Educational Options Resource (EOR); VISTAS; Young Parent Program; Middle College; College Now; BRIDGES; WINGS; and LYNCS.

EdOps staff have the goal of making sure that every student is on the correct path, is guided and supported along the way, and then properly connected to the ‘next step’ so that the end result is a smooth, successful transition to adult life. Students are aided in their growth by supportive teachers, classified staff, guidance counselor, therapists, administration, and strong community partnerships.

“Circumstances didn’t stop me from pushing my way to success. I wanted to be the young mom who was still able to graduate and still go off to college to provide a better future for my young one. And thanks to EdOps, I am the person who I wanted to become since the very beginning. I can’t add up all the words to say how thankful I am for the EdOps community. I want to thank all of the teachers and staff that have been there with me through it all; all these people have made an infinite impact in my life and have shaped me into the student and mother I’ve become." - Cynthia Galindo Herrera, EdOps Alumna and Mission College student
