Volunteers are the heart and soul of the Y. Essential in fulfilling our promise to strengthen community, Y volunteers help us innovate to provide relevant responses to the communities’ ever changing needs. They strengthen our leadership by serving on our boards. They build our capacity to serve by leading our annual and capital campaigns. They transform lives by serving as leaders in Y facilities and out in the community.
Each year our YMCAs recognize a select few for their outstanding contributions of time and talent to improve the lives of our youth, adults, families.
South Valley Family YMCA is honored to recognize the following volunteers for their dedication and service to our community. We are a stronger YMCA thanks to their efforts!
Trey Shaw - 2022 Changemaker Award
Trey is a driven leader and volunteer ambassador. He welcomes people into the Y community, answers their questions, and helps them find what they need. He started volunteering in the summer of 2020 and in a short time has become a leader within the community. As a young person with a disability, he talks with members about inclusion, community, and engagement. He advocates for young people with disabilities by developing more volunteer opportunities, classes, and programs that help the community and volunteers grow together.
Eileen Humbert - 2022 Distinguished Service Award
Eileen leads from her personal and community experience. She knows the Y as a mom, community member, volunteer, and board of managers member. While her children grew up, she brought them to YMCA after-school programs. She attended classes. Now she uses this perspective to enhance the programs for others. As the chair of the member experience committee and the past chair of the annual campaign for three years, her fundraising has directly led to over one million dollars in donations. While she does all this, she’s still an active member of the YMCA, often taking the first and last class of the day. Eileen is a genuine leader committed to helping the Y grow and improve each day.
