Volunteers are the heart and soul of the Y. Essential in fulfilling our promise to strengthen community, Y volunteers help us innovate to provide relevant responses to the communities’ ever changing needs. They strengthen our leadership by serving on our boards. They build our capacity to serve by leading our annual and capital campaigns. They transform lives by serving as leaders in Y facilities and out in the community.
Each year our YMCAs recognize a select few for their outstanding contributions of time and talent to improve the lives of our youth, adults, families.
El Camino YMCA is honored to recognize Laura Norris for her dedication and service to our community. We are a stronger YMCA thanks to your efforts!
Laura Norris - 2022 Distinguished Service Award
Laura breathes energy, fun, and connection into every moment. After the isolation of the pandemic, she brought this essential spirit to the first in-person fundraising campaign the Y had in years. She enthusiastically talked to people about the Y on social media and met them in person, thoughtfully sharing her time and genuine belief in the power of fitness, health, and education to improve our community. Her calm, empathetic presence puts others at ease. Her commitment to making a difference sustains her peers in volunteerism and builds a foundation of kindness and vitality in all her efforts. After more than eight years of fundraising as a volunteer, Laura still treats each day with the enthusiasm of her first and extends this warm welcome to the entire community.
